    Getting started ?????

Hi all, Not sure if this is the spot for this?

I'm going o/s in July and want to video the trip. I'm looking to purchase a digital video recorder, new computer and applicable editing software. I'm apprehensive in sourcing info from retail outlets due to there vested intrests. I know very little about whats available and what would best suit my requirements and was hoping for some advise or links that may help.

The trip/holiday is Kite Surfing related, lots of action and I'm assuming ths would dictate the choice of recorder.

    I'm in Melbourne

    Budget ? around $3000.00

Buy the best digital video recorder with the highest frame rate and resolution you can afford.

And buy high quality DVD RWs like Verbatims. Do not skimp in this area because you may have great shots but lousy media.

I purposely left out + or - in the DVD name because it will depend on the DVR you buy. Some other considerations are:

Does the DVR come with firewire connections?
A plugin for an external microphone? separate monitor? is it air/watertight to prevent sea salt corrosion? It all depends what you need to get the job done now and in the future.

thanks Smeg, sounds like a safe bet. The process of what to buy is going to have that, "my brain hurts" feel about it I sense.

Be sure to get a Digital Video Recorder WITH a hard drive. It makes it so much easier to remove the commercials off the hard drive and then burn to DVD media.
