    .mov playback issue

I recorded a video on my dig camera, which records in .mov. I moved the file off the card onto my hd, and went to go play it with quicktime. It gave me the error that it cant play it because it is not a file format that it understands. I obviously know that quicktime is one of the only programs that play .mov. I also tryed using xilisoft .mov converter to all formats, they all failed.

Is there anything I can do? I really want to be able to watch this video.

mov is just a container format.

Plenty of apps other than QT can actually handle mov files. What streams does it contain though?

I'm sorry, I have no idea what you mean by streams.

Would a avi. fixer work then?

avi is a different container format. Tools designed for avi, don't work with mov.

What I mean is that mov is a container and it contains video and audio streams. In order to play said mov, you need a parser to handle the mov container and decoders to handle the streams from the parser. Quicktime obviously has the parser, but I guess it is missing the decoders. In order to know what decoders are required though, you need to know what streams are in the mov.

check the camera's manual to determine the codec
