How can I rip recorded movies from my adelphia scientific atlanta 8300 cable box?

I have been making vcr tapes of recorded shows and would love to tranfer these shows to a dvd. I notice that this cable box has 1394 computer connections. If I connect the cable box to my laptop, will my laptop recognize the box and allow me to transfer movies that I have recorded to my PC?
