Capture Sony DV to Mpeg 1,2 or 4..

Any one what I can use to capture my camcorder vid to hdd mpeg format? Something that isnt bundled and uses low memory.

use "winDV" to capture to DV-AVI though firewire. at 35mbps you'll be needing plenty of hard disk space though.

can be encoded to mpeg2 afterwards

Will it lose video quality?

from camera-->hdd, no.

from avi-->mpeg2 technically yes there will always be loss, but may not be noticeable depending on settings & procedure
