.avi div3 decompressor error

I downloaded an avi file from a file sharing program. It plays the audio perfectly, but the video is missing. In Windows Media player it shows up like a song with ambiance. Sometimes it gives me an error message " 'vids:div3 decompressor not found." i would like to know how to rectify this problem and prevent future problems, PLEASE HELP!!!

...I'm unsure but perhaps you may be in need of one or more of the divx codecs.

You have to download and install the DivX v.3.11alpha codec...
