What is meant by SSE2 Support?

I'm considering an upgrade from Adobe Premiere Elements (APE) 1.0 to version 2.0. Below are the System Requirements for APE 2.0. I got these directly from Adobe.com

Could someone please explain to me what SSE Support is? Thanks.

Does anyone know if APE 2.0 is much of an improvement over APE version 1.0? I hate to waste $ if not. I appreciate your comments/input.

Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 System Requirements

Could someone tell me how I can determine if my computer has the following two requirements?

Must have:

• 1,024x768 16-bit XGA display, and
• Microsoft DirectX 9 compatible sound and display drivers

Adobe tells me my computer must have these in order to use Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0.

For Directx: Start - Run - dxdiag (see what it says). Most recent apps will install Dx9.0c if it's not already there.

For your video specs: Control Panel - Display Properties - Settings

burnselk, doesn't APE have a trial you can download? no need to spend money to see whether you like it or if it'll run on your PC

It sure does anonymez.....good point and I appreciate that. I'm like you, I don't want to spend money if it doesn't work on my computer.

I'll check it out. That's a great idea. I wonder if I can have both versions loaded at the same time?

I currently have APE version 1.0......what affect, if any, would this have on downloading and using the trial version 2.0?

Thanks Mate......that directX selection has a lot of information.

One of the directX tests said "Sounds can not be played using hardware buffers". "Software buffers must be used for sound". Whatever that means?

Under display in control panel, I found that my screen appearance is currently set to "32-bit Highest". The only other choice is "16-bit Medium".

Is that what they're talking about?

P.S. While looking around in Display, I was able to confirm that my P4 computer is SSE2 compatible. It was in one of the Advanced tabs.

your pc is a p4, i think it's safe to say it meets the dx9 drivers & display res requirements.

worst case scenario i would imagine is both stop working, then unable to uninstall & re-install due to registry entries
