    Building the ultimate machine?

    Hello all,

If you could build the ultimate computer (PC-based) for digital video capture and editing--and money was no option--what hardware components would you buy?

    Thank you for your input.

The fastest GHz CPU, 1.5GB of, at least, DDR RAM, Large capacity, 15,000-rpm SCSI harddrive should be considered. Oh yes, a firewire port will be required.

Enchanters machine is nice... but a few mods

make that a dual processor, scsi hdds and a 1.5gb DDR ram. Then add a ATI all in Wonder 8500. and yeah firewire too
      Overclock it to the MAX

Maybe I should have put it as the fastest P4 Northwood processor (Not sure of the name for the Dual-processor. Is it Itanium?), coupled with 1.5 GB RDRAM. They provide unbeatable memory bandwith that not even DDR333 can match.

If you only use a single hdd scsi dosen't really make much sense. IDE may even be faster. For multiple hdds a good raid-controller would be perfect.

            Thanks for your opinions!

Regarding video card, do you all agree with the choice of the ATI All-in-Wonder 8500?

I don't do captures and my Radeon 8500 is only used to display my desktop and movies, but heck, the image quality is breath-taking.
