Chewy, Thanks for the reply. I honestly never considered the shiny label side being a problem, it was just something that came to mind. I am going to do a little more investigating, as I know it can't be the -R media, because that is all I have ever used with the exception of my DL and the one Lightscribe that I burned. If and when I get to the bottom of this I will let you know my hypothesis.

O.K. I burnt the image of Ultraviolet on a disc before downloading ELCU. Then again after. The image took about 10 minutes longer with ELCU. The image quallity is noticeably better with the ELCU. I guess I would say the contast between light and dark is better making the image seem sharper and more detailed. Looks more focused. I might try and scan the disc and see it the scanner can pick up the differences and post the pics, doubt it but I'll try.
If anybody else trys it out post and let us know what you thought.

Yes the sharpie certainly serves the purpose but I got the lightscribe so why not use it. I ordered 30 of them off newegg last night so I'll be at least using those up!

I have a lot of DVDs labeled with that 'professional' labeling system as well.
Mostly those that I leave laying around.MBK

I decorate cakes for a living, I like things to look neat, professional. I preach this to my employees that I try to teach to decorate on a daily basis. It's like an ocd thing so of course I would like my backups to look the same way.
I also like to create and the lightscribe is an avenue to use my creativity. It's the artist in me, can't help it!
BTW Chewy, sharpies won't work on my cakes!Comment

But the cmc mag's, might make pretty cake decorations too!

Yes, Yes, my Lightscribe disc are the CMC MAGs, but when I actually bought them, they were the only Lightscribe disc they had, and they were labeled by HP, so I thought (my first mistake) that the inventors of Lightscribe would have good media. You know my saying, the burn is crappy but it plays. LOL
But I did order 60 of the Verbatim Lightscribes last night. Along with a hundred of of the Verbs with the rebate.Comment

Well I did my investigating into my problem with the TY's and Verb's that are shiny sided, and even done a little experiment with one of them. It played a little longer than it did before, but eventually still ended up with the player saying the disc could not be played. I am at a total loss for what the problem is, because according to all the scans of various types of media I have burned the Ty's and Verbs are by far the best. But they will never play past the 4th or 5th chapter, whereas the others play without a hitch. I did not say what my experiment was, on purpose because it is not one of the recommended things to do to a DVD. The playing part on the one player is not a problem as I have two in my living room and they play excellent on my 2nd and all my other players.
I wish I would have never thought about it at all, because now it is going to bother me until I get to the bottom of it, or just get tired of wasting money on experiments.Last edited by copyless; 29 Jun 2006, 01:53 PM.Comment
