Hallo to all..
The story board goes, in broad brushstrokes, as follows:
"Sure I'll take a video of your wedding Jean. 3pm on the 3rd? I'll be there.."
Later..
"HOW MUCH to hire a Handycam for the weekend??!!"
Later
"Hmm, seems simple enough: point and shoot and try not to wobble the thing"
Still later
"The guy said I had to finalize the DvD - better press this 'finalize' button then, hadn't I?" (a reassuring message comes up on the Handycam and the disc is, I take it: finalized).
Cut to later on, camera returned off hire....
"Not bad, but there is some stuff it would be great to cut out (that snide comment someone made about Anna looking "remarkably like she is pregnant" might prove hurtful (true and all that it is). Wonder can I use this Windows Movie Maker to do some REAL basic editing?"
"Can't import the file? Lemme see ".avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .everything that is not on the disc". Typical"
Current situation:
I can view direct from the disc using Windows Media Player. All appears well.
I cannot copy the DvD folder to my desktop complete. The folder contains various .ifi, .bup,.vob. files. Copying goes on for ages then I get an i/o error with some of the files copied. The file I seem to be after (the big .vob one) isn't copied.
I read somewhere that I can simply rename the .vob file to .mpeg and it will run as an mpeg. I copied the next to largest .vob files from within the folder to my desktop - this worked. I made a copy of it and renamed it *.mpeg. As an mpeg it ran video for a bit in WMPlayer but locked a little way in (it might be it came to a natural end - but was a bit stop and go along the way. As a .vob file it wouldn't run in WMplayer however
Anyone got some advice on what I should do? I can get the two discs copied to ordinary sized DvD at the shop and leave it at that, but if possible I'd like to have some way of getting this stuff into Win Movie Maker and doing some editing.
ps: assuming I can get it into WMM and say I had a shot lasting 30 minutes (she wanted every moment captured) can I cut bits out from the middle of that shot in Movie Maker or am I limited to doing things only in between each shots or for example cutting a complete shot.
Thanks in advance
York
