How to setup satellite tv to pc

Please forgive me if it is a dump question.

My pc has a TV turner card. I used to connect the cable tv into computer to watch tv on pc. And now I have dish network and I connect the same old way but it doesn't work out like before. Any advices will be appreciated?

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, that is not possible; the satellite has its' own tuner, receiving signal from the lnb/dish, & the tv tuner card on your pc will not decode those signals directly. You can come off the output of the sat. receiver & go to input of the tv tuner & watch it that way, but you still have to tune the channels with the sat. tuner.

Also if you have a dual channel PVR, such as the 622, you could run the second channel to the PC, this way you could watch two separate programs. Or record two different shows at the same time and watch a third ( as long as the third is recorded). This is what I do, this way I never have to watch any commercials.

It used to be possible via emulation.. But Kat is right, you need a sat. card installed in you puter..

It is not possilbe anymore as Dish changed their maprom. So no emulation is possible.

I tried this last night and it worked. I guess this is the only way. Too bad that my computer is in different room from sta. dish

One other thought, this setup would work;

You could install a dual lnb on the dish, & add a second receiver. Run that second receiver into your pc & you could do what you wanted to originally.

Of course, you will have to purchase the extra hardware & pay the extra monthly fee, but if you are set on watching sat. thru your pc in this manner, it would work...
