    Mpeg Playback Problem

    Hey all,

The problem I'm having is that some mpegs will freeze when I try to seek ahead while playing them back. Is this a known problem and what can I do to fix it? I suppose I could recompress them if necessary but I'd rather not if I can avoid it.

You can click on the link in my signature to see my computer setup but quickly I'm running Windows XP, the problem shows itself while playing under Windows Media Player 8.

I played the video back using PowerDVD and it played fine and even seeked without freezing. So does this mean that the problem lies with Windows Media Player 8?

It plays in PowerDVD, so you found the solution on your own. Congratulations.

DOH. So I should switch over to playing all my mpegs in PowerDVD then rather than Windows Media Player? I like PowerDVD for if I wanted to play like a long movie but not sure it'd be so nice when I wanna quick view an mpeg but if windows media player isn't gonna do the job I guess I will have to.

I also had some artifacts while playing under Windows Media Player that I didn't have using PowerDVD. I'm wonder if this isn't indicative of a problem that perhaps PowerDVD just gets around?
