I wouldn't buy any external hard drive unless it had usb2 and e-serial,
even if you aren't serial capable, your next computer will be, and the speed
is equivalent to an internal drive.

usb2 is so slow, e-serial is over twice as fast

take a hard drive that capable of 30-40MB/s and choke it down to 12-16MB/s, no way

yes, external serial interface, course you need an extra sata connector off your motherboard to use with it, now the enclosures are coming with the adapter, used to not

if I unplug one of my internal sata HD for that E-serial, will there be chance that I will loose my file in that internal if I keep it out a while?

          Thanks, Chewy

Never heard of e-serial, what is it?

And I doubt a 4 year old system has it, LOL

Night tran, that link was in my post. It seems like a great unit, I was trying to decide between that one and a dvd player that plays avi's and you can also hook a hard drive to, but I think I'm starting to lean towards the hard-drive.It has so many uses it seems to be worth the extra money.

neither have I, but I've bought a lot of gear from Maplins and never had a problem. They only seem to stock quality stuff. Here is a link to their website, http://www.argosy.com.tw/product-detial.php?prod_id=80 ,They seem to have a site dedicated to to U.S. I pulled the trigger on this one this morning, Dont think they'll last long at that price. I'm looking forward to uninstalling AVI2DVD, Imageburn and DVD shrink!

I am tire of burning and wonder if I switch to one like that and be able to play file straight to TV

According to the website thats exactly what you can do, AVI's straight to your tv!not only that though, you can make all sorts of playlists and hook them straight through your home theatre system.

                            Hi Kingaaa,
I have been reading your messages with interest. The unit from Maplin certainly looks interesting. I want something I can use to back up large quantities of photos/video-clips and play on TV - and the Media Player would be a good option. I do, however, still have two questions: first, what about this e-serial connectivity - I don't think the media player offers it? second, what are the advantages of this unit over any other hartd drive - I could play music, photo and video files (ie AVIs from dig cam) to the TV on most external hard drives (with a decent TV) could I not?
Your help and interest is appreciated.
                            Pat
