playback is dark

this is my first post here not sure where this post will end up,
just needed some advise,
I am using smart ripper - dvdx1.7 - and vcd easy,
the final result is the vcd works but the picture is dark and on parts of the playback is very hard to see,
can anyone help me out as to what might be the problem,
i am playing it back on power dvd, which does not seem to have any options for changing brightness etc

Your video adapter should be able to support video overlay, which allows you to adjust the basic settings of video playback, including the brightness.

Try this:
Right-click on your desktop -> properties -> settings -> Advanced. Look around there for anything related to overlay. Not al graphic adapter will support this though, so there is a possibility that you won't find it.

took me a while tio find the overlay, adjusted the brightness a touch vcd is just right now,
