TV as monitor no subtitles

Hi,
I tried to use my TV as monitor, mainly to watch movies on a big screen.
I have a ATI X300 video board on a laptop and the connection is via the s-video plug.
I succesfully see the monitor on my TV, with only one problem:
as soon as I start a video application the video is displayed at full screen mode on tv (while on the pc it is displayed in a small window). Moreover, and here is the real problem, the thing is when I load subtitles (e.g. in BS player), I can see them only on the PC and not on the screen.

Any idea on how to solve the problem?

what if I buy the LCD monitor like the Samsung that you have, is it ok to have both cable and computer hook up to it, if I want tv I play tv if I want to play files from computer I play file from comp. is it safe to do that or connect to one source only?

I think so because the LCD has the connection for directly to PC but I haven't read the encyclopedia that came with my Samsung fully yet but they are talking about S-Video here so I am assuming it is a normal TV. When I say from experience, just over a year ago I was going to use S-Video to my TV & use it as a monitor. It took me a few seconds to change my mind. I was going to store movies on my drive & play from the PC but when you figure 30 cents a disc as opposed to 4+ GB's stored on your hard drive, NO CONTEST. I did not have the LCD at that time, I have purchased it since.

start by setting the TV as the primary display in your graphics card drivers.

In this way it works but then when I play a movie I see it in full screen mode on the PC.
Isn't there a way to use the TV exaclty as the PC monitor?

I have the same problem. My TV is set as second screen. Subtitles are showing when include in .idx & .sub files but not showing when in .srt file.
Is there a way to convert .srt to .idx & .sub files ?
Is there standalone DVD/DivX that play DivX with subtitles in a separate file ?
Which subtitle format ?

I have an ATI X800 graphics card. If I use it on my TV/Projector I see everything exactly as I see it on the monitor. I would suggest trying another player to see if it is a hardware issue or an software issue.

have you try to use VLC to play your file?

VLC works great except with .srt subtitles.

It would be helpful that you try to play an .avi file with .srt subtitles and let me know the result.
