A Tip To Save More Disk Space

A tip to save disk space. Remember, the Unzipped folder collects unwanted stuff. It's unwanted unless you have moved the yellow folder from the Zip Folder to a loaction or unless you've saved what's in there. Don't select Select All and Delete because you might delete some things that you might need that don't need to be installed such as Reflexive game cracks. Remember, the old version of DVD Shrink was a version that didn't need to be installed. After unzipping it and going into the yellow folder, we had to make a shortcut to our Desktop from the DVD Shrink icon in the yellow folder and the shortcut was powered by the DVD Shrink in the Unzipped folder. If you delete the wrong thing like that and when you want to load it again you'll get a box with a torch moving from left to right with the icons Browse and Cancel where it will indicate it can't find the software because it's gone. I just checked my Unzipped folder and the disk space that's used is 1.15GBs. That is a lot of wasted disk space. As I said, be careful what you delete encase you delete any software that you don't have to install as in software that you want to keep.

A good habit to use when unzipping a program is to create a folder with that program's name in program files. Then extract the .exe file into that folder. Locate the exe file (in windows) and then create a desktop icon then.

I use firefox and all of my downloads are sent to a desktop folder. I examine this folder frequently to see what I can delete and move the stuff I should not delete. By being on my desktop, I find it hard to ignore then.

About the other temp files on my computer, I use CCleaner to clean them up. I like to use that at the end of any browser session so my cache is clean the next time I go on the web.

That is also useful info. I'm glad you mentioned that because I never thought of all that.

I must add something. Before I do a virus scan, I always empty my Temporary Internet folder because as we all know, that can build up quick and it can take over five minutes to scan alone depending on how much is in there. All the unwanted stuff in there and in the Unzipped folder and Recycle Bin drags the scans out longer. Also, most of the time when I've caught a virus they mosty go in the Temporary Internet folder, too. Whatever scans I do, if anything is detected, I always do another scan to be sure the next result is negative.

What I've done for shortcut to save space on my desktop, I created folders and named them for different kinds of things and dragged my shortcuts in the correct folders to save clutter on my desktop that blocks out my wallpaper. It's only a matter of double-clicking one extra time to open some software but one more double-click is worth it when it comes to wanting to see the wallpaper and to have a neater desktop. I'm sure you and a lot of others have thought of the same thing, too but I mentioned it encase.

Many thanks, again for your tip.

      Darren.
