Thanks for the heads-up on this application.
I am running XP Home SP2, and have sucessfully removed the file using a free program "STARTUP CONTROL PANEL 2.8 by Mike Lin" which can be downloaded from www.mlin.net.
This program is great to have and very useful for other startup apps.
It loads an icon in the Control Panel for simple access.

This is the program I use to decide which items to remove from MSCONFIG
This is the program I used first to remove it (ctfmon.exe) from MSCONFIG and the registry and then I used the Microsoft article to uninstall the two executibles and that did the trick.
CTFMON.EXE does not reappear in MSCONFIG after re-booting and thus gaining resources.

It takes a little bit but CTFMON can be disabled in ME, 2000, NT & XP.
Hear are the step by step instructions.

Turning off the text service seems to have done the trick. What I didn't do before was kill the running app in task manager first. Once I did that and then turn off the service, it doesn't load anymore. Thanks!Comment
