    Downloading videos problem

I have just registered on this forum and am not technical.

Recently joined a site and downloaded a few photos - no problems.

However when I attempt to download a video [right click - save to target as] and believe I have been successful all I get is a htm file of about 4 or 5kb when the video should be perhaps 10 or 20 mb! [Needless to say I just get a blank screen with an image icon on the left hand top when I try to play it with DivX].

Any suggestions to solve the mystery would be appreciated.

      Thanks for the prompt response.

      Know nothing about leeching.

I have had no difficulties with downloading videos from sites before and therefore assume that no software is blocking downloads.

I have registered on the site and am downloading as suggested by the
operators [right click and save to target] and all I get is a file that is described as htm [4 or 5kb size] and no access to the videos. [I have successfully downloaded photos and zip files from the same site].

The operator informs me that I should have the file on my disk to play it as it is not the 'streaming' type and that I should use DivX or Videolan to play it. He suggest that it is some problem with my computer.

I am going to attempt to download on a friend's computer tomorrow and see if there are any problems.

      Thanks for the welcome.

what that sounds like is that what you downloaded was a link,,are you able to click on the video? Does it take you to a different site? That is what it sounds like to me..that is why it would be an htm file since it is just a link..

Quite right. When I right click on the picture displaying the video or the caption under the video eg 'video mixed' [underlined] that the supplier says I should click on. I get boxes that say 'save LINK as' rather than 'save TARGET as'.

I tested this on a friend's computer this morning. And the same result.

          Any solution to this problem?

          Thanks

btw: Just noticed after I had downloaded a zip file containing pictures from the same site that it was not visible on my Documents folder/site. Did a search and the file AND the individual pictures [unzipped!] were shown as sitting in my Documents...

However when I looked for it/them not there. Hidden....?

added: 18:52 - Found the file on my Desktop -> right-click and 'sent to Documents'

As much as I hate to say it, get Firefox, and click on the file in that, then save it.

I have tried downloading with Mozilla/Firefox and Internet Explorer and when I right click get the 'save to Link' not 'save to Target'.

What is it that makes the OS software recognise it as a Link rather than as a File? Is it an url, whatever [not technical].

what happens when you just left click on it does it play or redirect your browser? What format is the video in? (realplayer, quicktime..is it a 'you tube' or 'google video' type video?)

There is the following under the image I look at:

                  Video Mixed

When I left click on the above title I am taken to another page that has the following under it:

Just click right mouse button on the preview pic and use function 'save target as' to get the video.

I have asked the operator to give me the name and extension of the file that has the video. Hope to receive a reply tomorrow.

                    That's not what I meant.

Left click on the file. It will ask if you want to open or save. Select save.

                      Bingo!

You appear to have cracked the problem.

I left clicked on the video mixed caption and was taken to the next page with some 6 photos. Left clicked on one of them and was asked what to do with them. Selected 'save to disk' and it then downloaded some 15mb of data and started playing the video.

                      Thanks for your help.

Have some 40+ videos to download!
