video capture problem

I have a nvidia Ti4200 chipset videocard with VIVO. I connected a vcr to the composite video in on the card. When i play the video the picture is fine on the screen, but when i press record on the software recorder the image sometimes becomes larger than the screen so only part of the picture is captured.

I tried different software (windvd recorder, win dvr, winavi video capture) and also different version of the nvidia wdm drivers but al without succes.

What could be the problem,

iv used leadtec vivo card and it worked well with its own program. i say u uninstall all drivers including wdm drivers and ur program to capture then, restart and install the wdm drivers that came with ur card, not the newer version frm nvidia,

also check what resolution ur using, as for VHS u dont need to set higher then 352x288 [pal] 352x240 [ntsc]

Thanks, but i already tried all of the suggestions. I installed wdm 1.06, 1.08 and the one that came with the card 1.11. The 1.11 and newer versions give me a white bar across the picture. I capture in vcd (ntsc 352x240) resolution but still no succes.

Howdy!

Very odd that the video increases in size during capture. And very odd that the capture is not capturing the actual input but capturing what is displayed on the screen.

I would check the video card settings in the advanced section. There may be a setting that gives you a choice between capturing what you see (wysiwyg) or capturing the direct input.

If that is not the case, the capture section of the video card may be defective. Check Nvidia website, there might be some info regarding capturing with that particular card.

The white line you mentioned may be caused by macrovision copy protection embedded on the vertical blanking pulse, depending on what kind of VHS your attempting to capture. Unless your VHS is a home movie, 99 percent of VHS movies bought from stores or rental places will have macrovision on them, in which case you need a macrovision remover. The Sima video stabalizer will do the job very well. Link below.

I looked at the settings but can't find anything wrong, i also don't think the card is defective because sometimes if one program has the problem i just try another one and it works.

The white line is not a problem, because that is caused by the newer wdm drivers. If i use the older ones i don't have the white line (bar).

The problem is even worse now, i recently upgraded my pc (mobo, cpu, mem) but i am still using the same video card (Gainward Ti4200-8X AGP). After having completly reinstalled everything such as windows XP SP2, drivers etc. i don't even have a picture when i try to capture.

The capture window stays black while i can hear the audio. If i press record it takes a while before the counter starts walking. When i stop recording the captured file is still 0 MB, eventhough i recorded for a few seconds. I already checked the cables and i tried different wdm drivers without succes.

One time it did record something but when i played it back i just saw the first frame that froze while the audio kept on playing.

Is this a hardware or a software problem.
