AVI files

I was wondering if its possible to take an AVI file of a movie and be able to convert it to some kind of file so that I can burn it on a CD to watch on my DVD player. If I can, can you please give me some help. I do not have a DVD player with my computer, I just have one for my TV.

VCD is your answer. TMPGEnc and Nero can do the job of converting AVI files into VCD-compliant mpeg files.
