REC. DISABLED, please help

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD101/DVD201. I am trying to finalize the disc, but it doesn't give me the option. Also, whenever I try to switch it to the camera or video recorder, it says "REC. DISABLED". How do I fix it?
I'm sorry if this turns out to be a stupid mistake. I am new to this camera and am trying to send the disc to my husband who is in the military overseas right now.

u cannot record on to already used DVD-r. make sure ur using the new unused disk.
