    DVD Camcorder

sorry if I am not asking this in the right place but I wasn't sure where to ask. (Newbie alert)

I have just recorded my honeymoon on my camcorder but the finalising of the dvd was interupted thus didn't finish. Now it just says that the disc needs formatting which obviously it dosen't as it has already been used. (it won't play on my DVD player either).

I have contacted Samsung who say that because it hasn't completed the finalising this is the cause of the problem and dosen't have a resolution for it except for saying that it could be sent to a company that does disc recovery. He said that as long as we can see stuff burnt on it we should be able to recover it.

I have asked a friend who suggested something like ISO Buster I think it was, does anyone have any ideas or can suggest any freeware that may help. companies are charging a fortune to disk recovery and to be honest I just can't afford it.

    thanks for any help.

You could use a DVD burning program to look at the contents of the disc through the programs media browser/checker. The program should be able to see what is there even though the disc is not finalized in its complete form.

Some programs will work and others wont. I have used Sonic Solutions "Record Now DX" to view, extract and reconstruct DVD's recorded in camcorders where their finalizations processes were interrupted. Sometimes just having the program finalize the disc saves the disc itself, but sometimes that doesnt work and you have to extract the data and rebuild from scratch, which really isnt too difficult with the varying DVD authoring/editing programs that can be found through links on this forum.

    Good luck!
