x264/avc to avi?

i have a movie that is in mkv format when i opened it up with mkvmerge it said it had three formats in it mpeg4/iso/avc which where the video. someone said it was h.264 is there a way to convert this into something i can use to burn it to a dvd?

better to encode straight from the mkv using something like avi2dvd or avisynth+hcenc.

however if you still want to get it into an avi (wouldn't recommend it), extract to raw h264 with mkvextract, mux to avi with AVC2AVI.

mkvextract doesnt work for it. it doesnt extract anything just makes a file that is a few bytes and then says the thing was done extracting when it didnt extract anything at all also avi2dvd wouldnt work for it either i tried and it just sat there doing nothing for 3 hours after finishing the audio it went to do the video then stopped and the wait time jumped from an hour to 5 then 10 and all the way up to 1000 hours not getting 1% of the video.

sure you installed it correctly? place in the mkvtoolnix installation directory. if so, check the file in something like mediainfo and post file info
