    Divx Freak Out

so.. a few days ago, i was watching a divx movie and every 5-7 minutes or so, the video would pause, the audio would continue, and about 10 seconds later, the video would resume where it left off, running about double frame rate and catching back up to the audio, where play would resume normally. since this began, other weird things have started, such as the splicing of a single frame of another movie into the current one in place of the "frozen frame."

for example: i'm watching, the video pauses (but with an entirely unrelated image) while the audio continues, then the video will sometimes resize from fullscreen to about double original size and reposition itself to the top left corner. when it does that, a pattern of random colored pixels shows up. after about 10 seconds, the video will continue as normal. everything resync's and it's fine for another 5-7 minutes.

and only very recently has it started locking up the computer completely when it hits one of these glitches. full power-off is required.

i downloaded an "avi anti-freeze" filter, which has kept it from locking the whole machine, but now the audio goes into a .1 second loop when the video freezes. craziness still happens quite frequently. also, it's intermittent. it can't be replicated at the same place over and over. sometimes it might play 30 minutes with no problem, and then go into freak out mode.

this is on many different files, different players, etc. for reference, i'm using windows xp pro on a p4 1.8ghz, and nvidia geforce4 440mx video on dual monitors @ 1152x864 32bpp. video software: windows media player 8.00.00.4477 AND 6.4, real-one player 6.0.10.505, and divx player 2.0 alpha. codec: divx codec 5.0.1.

before last week i had not a single problem whatsoever. i can still play the videos from another computer on the network just fine, so i don't think it's the videos themselves. i can't pin down any software/hardware changes that affected anything. no settings i tink with seem to do anything for it.

this is by far the most cracked-out thing i've ever seen. anyone have any ideas?

It strongly indicates a fault within your system. I would suggest changing your desktop resolution to the standard 1024x768 or 1280x1024. I also had problems with the resolution you are currently using.

Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.
