Today, we installed WIN DVD on my XP computer, and when we
tried to play several videos, we got an error message, so we
uninstalled it. In the process, I have now disabled my system to
the point that I am unable to play audio files on ANY of my audio apps.
I tried Rhapsody and Nero. I looked at the Control Panel / Settings
to see if something had been irreparably muted somehow...and the
volume setting on my Presonus Firebox is all the way to zero, but
greyed out so I am unable to bring it up. Nero had a similar problem...
volume all the way down, but I was unable to bring it up. On
Rhapsody, I was at least able to bring the volume slider up, but
with no perceptible audio resulting from this action.
Ack.
What I fear might have happened is that by running the uninstall
program, I might have deleted something which the other audio
apps needed. I'm wondering if doing something like trying to
reinstall Windows Media Player might bring my system back to life,
or if I am looking at a trip to the shop with this poor beastie.
Any clues, please share them!

p.s. by the way, if there is a more appropriate spot on these forums
for basic newbie questions, I apologize for posting this here, and I
assure you that I *am* trainable.
