at least if the units don't hold up well they are cheaper to replace
I love my toshiba also chewy, about three years old and plays everything I throw at it except DL +R's

      Hello my friend,
If thats the case I now feel reasured, but a bit peeved that it doasn't do what it says, and to boot, increasingly the timer fails as well.

        Hi everybody,
About 3 years ago I bought a Toshiba DVD Recorder & VCR (Model Number: D-VR30SG). Now all of a sudden, it doesn't play any recorded discs. Also when I try initializing the brand new disc, these messages pop on the screen:'Could not format the disc because of error detection' and The disc can niether be played or recorded please check disc'. I also tried with different brands of new discs but initialization stops after 90% and the tray opens again. I would really appreciate for any kind of advice or tip.

        Thanks in advance,

        Tariq
