What I think I need to do is to convert to AVI/MPEG to allow my software MEDIA PRO to understand the format and load the file so that I can Edit.If anybody can throw any light in the direction I should take, Something I should get or I am trying to do the impossible then iI would be very grateful

I know that semi-recently, Microsoft had been cracking down a little bit, not allowing people to convert their WM files into other formats, so as a result, programs like VirtualDub had to stop supporting them...

Granted, this was a little while ago, and I don't know what the situation is now, or even if you can do it now...

Just letting you know what little I do.. =P

But it WAS possible, so if no programs support it now, maybe you could get an older program to do it... (just guessing)

tmpg will do it.load it in and then choose "file" then "output to avi"
then choose your codecs etc.....if it doesnt want to load in the first place go to "option" then "environmental setting" then"vfapi plug in" then make sure it says in the list "direct show multimedia file reader" then next to it make sure the box is checked and then under "priority" change the number to "0" if it still doesnt work keep changing the number higher on that one...it should work.

        correct!

u don't need to fiddle about with the settings, just load the WMV and encode

          Thanks

Thank you John Boy and Techno. I found TMPG and it works a treat with no fiddling or tweaking required. I now have lots of work to edit and join these files. See you next year lol. Thanks again
