    Panasonic DMR-EH55

I have been converting my VHS tapes to DVD using the Panasonic DMR-EH55 without many problems at all. After converting well over 300 movies, I'm now down to the movies that are rather lengthy and include 2 VHS's. I'm talking about movies like Braveheart, Shindler's List, Meet Joe Black, etc.

If there's anyone else out there who uses this particular Panasonic DVD recorder, can you tell me how I can convert two VHS tapes to one DVD? I understand the recording types and know that I can get 4 hours of recording time by using the LP setting. I am a bit lost on how to swap out the tapes without recording any "stuff" in between the two tapes.

Would it be best to burn the two tapes separately and combine them on my PC or is there a way that this Panasonic device can make my life easier?

Thanks in advance for any help that's out there.

I thought the DMR-EH55 was a hard drive model. I have the older E85, so what you can do if the 55 has the hdd, is to record the tapes to the drive first, edit a little to make the transition between the 2 segment easier. then burn from the drive to disc.
To get the best possiblr picture, add up the total time of the movie, and record to the hard drive in FR mode, setting the record time at the total length of the movie when dubbing both tapes. So when you go to dub themto disc, it should fit on a single disc without a problem.

If the 55 is not a hard drive model, then dubbing to two -rw's, then combining on the pc is what you'll have to do. Which method you'll like best will depend on the dvd authoring software you have...

The EH-55 is indeed a hard drive model. Recently I have been recording VHS movies that are over the 2 hour 7-8 minute limit for a quick 12 minute recording, when copying to the hard drive. One nice feature of the EH-55 is that you can record directly to the DVD, which saves a lot of time if you first copy to the hard drive. So my perspective was that of burning directly to the DVD, which is what I couldn't quite wrap my mind around when I had to change out the VHS.

Thank you for the other option, though. I'll give that a try.
