Mc Afee was just as bad in leaving those remnants after the trial period ends. Last time I had to go deep in the registry using windows support tools zapper to clean it up manually. I don't have much of problems with Norton but the auto "quick scan" in IS2007 I can't find where to disable it. It just run as soon I switch my PC on first time in each day and the effect is a delayed start up. In a way was good though because it scans my PC everyday using quick scan.

As long you have the proper tools and knowledge Norton's is not bad to remove from a computer. But McAfee's can be a real PIA to remove even with the proper tools it can still leave remnants of the program behind and can cause some serious problems.

McAfee's came preinstalled on my laptop when I got it, I took it to a freind at work and he removed every trace of it in about 30 minutes and three reboots but it was all gone...he then installed Nortons for me which I'm still trying to get off here. Maybe I should take it back to him.

I actually went through my PC and removed everything Symantec and Norton and now the search finds no traces of either...if anything is left, there may be bits and peices floating around in the registry.
