    Windows Vista

I have some reasons about this but I need to ask anyway. Is it true that Windows Vista is slow at shutting down and booting up where they can take about ten minutes for each? Also, Is it true that Windows Vista can make a PC run unstable?

I was told this and I wonder if the Windows Vista user either has AD-Ware, Spyware or a virus or even old software that isn't compatible with Windows Vista. I know those issues can cause problems. I need to know about Windows Vista encase it's another Microsoft blunder at the experimental stage while the user that I know has no infections with Windows Vista software. I've been told this by a phone message and I can't ask the owner yet if he's scanned lately or installed old software.

    Many thanks.

    Darren.

I don't have Vista and won't get it anytime soon. Could the slow shutdown problem be related to the (process taking 20 seconds to shut down) problem here:

Not unless something has really gone wrong. MS wouldn't release an OS with 10 minute boot time.

In some cases. Mostly due to relatively poor driver support by manufacturers.

        Many thanks for the help.

I forgot to mention, it might also relate to lots of background software running. I forgot to ask my younger brother this but I can't reach him at the moment because he's always working and his phone is always off. I'll check that link. Please help further if you can because I'm trying to help my dad with a decent PC as a replacement.

I'm asking this because I gave my dad one of my PC's in Feburary that suddenly went wrong shortly after and it needed a few repairs and it was written off because it was in the wrokshop way too long and he is getting vouchers to get a new one as a policy and I'm trying to find out if my dad will get any joy with Windows Vista. The PC that I gave my dad had Windows XP. My older brother has Windows Vista and he says it takes him about ten minutes to boot-up and shut down.

        Many thanks again.

        Darren.

The first time you boot vista it will take any where from 15 minutes to 1 hour to get to the desk top. I am currently setting up vista machines, at work but after the setup is complete they do not take 10 minutes to boot up or to shut down. Your brother's computer has problems, sounds like a virus or trojan has infected the computer.
