Open your file in MPC. Click View/Options/Player/Keys. You will find the keyboard shortcuts for a number of actions including Rotate.
If you want to reencode the avi in the correct format then use Virtualdub(MPEG2 or Mod) with the Rotate filter.
My friend tells me that this is caused by Direct VOBsub filter.
This was my chat with him.
me: I got some avis which are playing upside down - using media player classic here
there seems to be an option in MPC to rotate vi ALT+NUMPAD8 - but its not rotating friend: vobsub....check your systray for a green icon ...click on it and select "original picture" me: no green icon - u told me that before - but cant seem to notice anything popping up like that friend: or right click on screen of mplayerc and >filters>direct vob sub> flipped picture me: let me check
These are the options on right clicking > Filters >
Default DirectSound Device
Video Renderer
Audio Switcher
AVI Decompressor (XVID)
MPEG-1 Audio Decoder friend: check Video Renderer and DirectSound Device for flipped pic me: Video Renderer shows Properties - nothing editable ....... 2 tabs - Quality and Pin Info
In Pin Info the Pin value is [IN] VMR Input0 friend: no...you have to have a Direct VOBsub filter...used to display subtitles... me: anything that be done using VirtualDub ? I had that installe long ago friend: no...
check for a green arrow in systray
can you see subtitles??? me: there isnt anything in my systray ! what are you expecting ?
no subtitles - but - its a singe AVI file - no .sub files or whatever
HEY - I opened in VirtualDub and its not upside down !
any way to sort this so that i can open it properly in MPC ?
are you getting one image that im sending you ? friend: try to run divfix.exe and fix the file..
I understand what u r telling me
1).........blah blah blah friend: do you have gspot.exe me: gspot.exe ? nope - where can i get it from ?
tell me if its safe to download divfix from here : http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divfix.html friend: search for it...also autoGK.exe, and Gordianknot.exe.....these are freewares
i suppossed to be doing with these ? friend: think so... me: isnt there one free tool that fix this in a jiffy ? friend: these are for ripping and reassembling divx files...,,gspot gives you all data about any divx file me: oh....hold on - let me get gspot and let you know the properties friend: autogk contains assorted independent softwares which are used to rip DVD....auto GK is actually an automated Gordian Knot...so you dont have to download gordian knot
you will need autogk if you are using divx regularly...it is a toolkit... me: lol - this is where i ended up at looking for gspot - http://www.answers.com/topic/g-spot-7 friend: hahaa... me: i have DivX installed though
not just the codec - the player etcthat comes with the download
no tool in there ? friend: there are lots of divx codecs by different vendors....the flipped pic is caused by a particular codec which can read *.srt file
try some codec packs like klite codec pack me: but what i have are single AVIs - no *.srt files came with it friend: not what u get from divx website me: so.....now whats my next step in getting this flipped permanently ? friend: well avis will work fine without the srt file....but the codec still reads the avi file the same way
you can dub it again with virtuadub to another known codec...
you will be re-encoding the file again....so see the film before u delete the original with the flipped pic me: basically installing another codec pack should solve the problem.......
rather than trying to re-build the AVI ? friend: make sure the new codec is also a divx or divx hack
yes me: what do u recommend for me to download & install ? friend: klite filterpack...or tsunami filter pack(older) me: Hey - i just opened it with DIVx player and its playing properly !
its only MPC thats not reading it properly friend: hehe...you seem to have the codec already installed....check the player for filters
play>filters>
in MPC you will have to do it the hard way.... me: anything do be done in options ? friend: view>options>filters>overrides>add filter>DirectVobsub(autoloading ver)
you wont get the directx overlay window in a screenshot me: ok got what you mentioned - but this is what i see in selecting filters friend: before that ...check this me: theres a big list of filters to select from friend: output > VMR9(renderless) me: apply ? friend: click ok (dont go to 'over\ride' yet)...apply
open the file...if it is not working then try VMR7 renderless
Playback>output > VMR9(renderless)...not filters>override
NOT filters>override me: oh....one sec
but thats was i was into - Options > Playback > Output friend: yes
only if it is not working try the override me: what override ? friend: Filters > Overrides>addfilter me: oh...
VMR9 didnt work and VMR7 just show a black screen
both renderless friend: oh...then use system default and go to overrides me: ok - not sure from where you got Filters > Overrides > addfilter
friend: select directVobSub(autoloading version)
da...I am tired ...going to sleep me: ok - 2 secs
these are the filters it shows - no directVobSub friend: type D...on the keyboard me: typed D...and
first filter is distortion
DivX Decoder Filter me: DivX Subtitle Decoder
maybe the name is different friend: ok...u dont have directVobSub.... me: oh...ok
guess i'll use DivX Player for now...
