delayed sound

hello, im wondering if anyone can help me i have just downloaded divx so that i can convert and copy my movies.im new to all this but im having a problem with some of my movies when i play them (even on my divx player )the sound has a 6 second delay on the movie.can this be fixed or can someone tell me why this is happening.it only seems to happen on older movies (1999)so i thought this might be the cause? thanks in advance

Virtualdub(MPEG2 or Mod) or AVIDemux can do it.
