Nero will burn dvds not cds

I have checked the posts but can't find this problem, I can burn dvds and listen to cds on my Mad Dog 16xdvd9 but lately I can't burn cds. Nero gave me a "power calibration error" so I reset the speeds as I've read here. Now I get an "invalid write state". I've tried everything I can think of but I am far from an expert! Any suggestions would be appreciated! It worked up until the other day, I've tried three brands of cds.

I use Plextor burners and when ever I would start to get power calibration errors I would remove my burner,
open it up, and clean the lazer lens with an alcohol dabbed Q tip..
In my case, I could burn CD's but not DVD's.......

that's a nec 3500 drive and a 3 year old model

probably due a clean or a replacement

Hey! I have LITE-ON SOHW 1653S (flashed) and I get "power calibration error" when burning with higher speed then 4x. I'm using Verbatim DVDs. You think I should clean the lens?
