    XP & Vista

When I burn software to a CD from my Windows XP PC and try installing them in a Windows Vista PC, sometimes the software doesn't appear on the screen in the Windows Vista PC and when they do they don't always install. When they don't install I double-clicked on the Set-up icons and there's the tiny circle with the mark going around it non-stop and nothing happens. It causes the PC to need a reboot and sometimes clicking on Start and Reset fails so it means the power button is the only way to do it and it needs to boot-up in Safe Mode etc. I've also put the CD's in another drive and the same happens.

Does anybody know what is happening? I've already checked for viruses, ADware, Spyware and I fixed Registery errors and the problem still goes on.

    Many thanks.

    Darren.

I'm wondering if Sata DVD drive has something to do with it(if you have one on your
Vista machine as I do.) I have Auto-insert notification and auto-play disabled for my DVD drive. Also instead of using Explorer to look at the drive contents, I use Free Commander. If I try to look at a data DVD or CD that I burned in Vista, a lot of times I'll get a popup asking me if I want to format the disc!!

Try accessing through Free Commander or another File Manager and see if that
    circumvents the problem

      Many thanks for the help.

This PC that I'm trying to fix is acting like a criple because nearly everything that is wanted to be done backfires. It's worse than you think. No viruses were found and I got rid of Spyware that was detected. I wondered about Registery files but every damn time I find some software for that even though it's a trial, they ALWAYS ask for money after the scan where they take liberties that I'm going to buy it. That makes me made. A trial is a trial and we deside if we want it and they try and put us in the posision where we have no choice. I more-or-less stick my fingers up at them because they don't respect the meaning of a trial. They take liberties. I can remember the name of the software that I tried but nearly 1000 Registery errors was detected but when I found a Freeware one it only detected just over 100 so that Freeware version is useless. It failed to detect about 90% of the rest.

I want to get this PC sorted soon because it's not mine. It all started when AVI video files either play with audio only or not at all where an error appears due to Codec up the spout. I tried updating the driver but it says it's up-to-date. Even though I'm grateful for your help, if this problem continues after another week, I'll have to back-up all his data and format the PC.

I partly blame Windows Vista for a lot of errors. I've had others (not from here) telling me they have problems with a lot of errors. Microsoft should never have released Windows Vista so soon because the software has more bugs than a back garden. Just think, years ago a lot of people moaned about Windows XP but that is a sweetheart compared to Windows Vista. One of my brothers bought a new PC that came with Windows Vista and he did the sensible thing and downgraded to Windows XP after seeing the hassle that one of his friends has with Windows Vista.

      Many thanks.

      Darren.

Strange...Ive got a Vista, WinXP SP2 and a Win98SE machines and none of them have any problem reading burned discs from any of these machines.

Maybe I got lucky and ended up with OS versions that have some sort of secret fix in them...but all 3?

Hope you get that worked out.
