Need to change AVI to WMV!

    Hello all,
I have some AVI video files that I need to convert into WMV files for my client.
Does anyone know of the fastest one out there that is free or has a free trial so I can at least test it before purchasing? Thanks!

You could try Stoik Video Converter

Also SUPER will probably do it but it's not known for being fast.

See the SUPER forum here for download info

Thank you,but there are some problems

I try Stoik Video Converter, but I don't know how to convert a segment of my videos.
I read some guide ,and compare all popular video converters .
I find them have similar functions
        Any suggestion?

You could use any program that lets you save sections of .avi files. There are several variations of VirtualDub. Also I find AviDemux 2.4 pretty easy to use. If you're just doing simple slices and not looking for video effects either should work. Once you get the .avi clips then it's easy to append them together. If you only have a few clips AviDemux is easy to use manually. If you have a lot of clips you might want to do VirtualDub or another program that lets you append whole sequences(my.avi.001 002 etc.) with one command.

As the last step put the resulting .avi through the converter.

It's doable with a couple of free programs:

            1. Windows Media Encoder 9 (WME9) by Microsoft.
It will convert just about anything to the MS video formats.
The user interface is not trivial, but the quality is excellent.

            2. Windows XP Movie Maker 2. (probably already installed on your XP workstation)
It can load AVI files of most codecs you have installed, and will devide it to recognizable chapters.
But I think the output is limited in quality... still, it's good enough if you're not aiming at DVD quality.

Both applications are free to download from the MS website.
Both conversions will be slow. But I think it will be slow with any convertor.
One advantage the WME9 has is that it can perform batch operations - so you can execute a batch over night, if it's time that bothers you.

            Cheers
