    DVD Quality from DV?

I have searched the internet trying to determine for myself if I can create decent quality DVDs from my DV Camcorder. I saw a lot of good stuff in this forum and was hoping I could get some good help and good advice.

I have a JVC GR-DV500 (circa 2003 with 540 Lines of resolution). Using the supplied Imagemaker VCD 1.1 software, I connected the camera via USB to my Dell Dimension 3000 and saved some video clips from a tape. The quality was poor when replayed in Windows Media player at full screen. I understand this to be due to the fact that I used the USB connection which yields only a low res image (MPEG-1, 320x240).

I would like to create DVDs from my tapes with one key goal: the quality of the DVD playback would be the same as if I was playing the tape back on the video camera through the TV with RCA or S-Video connection.

    I do not have:
    1. Firewire card for my PC - $22 with cable
    2. DVD burner - $45 for Lite-on with Nero Essential 7.0 Software

If I bought these items, would that enable me to produce DVDs of the quality of the actual tape? Is there a better way than this?

I would appreciate your advice on the best, reasonably priced way to do this.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

I took the extra time to find a card with a TI chipset. I ordered an IO Gear card over the SIIG based on price.

I'm glad you mentioned it, because it seems that the cheapest and/or most common cards have VIA chips.

Thanks for the feedback and advice.
