I have many 16:9 video in my computer, and I need to put them to my iPod or cell phone, when I converted these video, questions came out.
16:9 -> 4:3, some software just stretch it, image distorted. Some will use “letterbox” mode, though it’s looks normal, but will have black space on top and bottom.. otherwise, “Pan&Scan” mode can be used, it will cut left and right part of the 16:9 movie, and got a fullscreen 4:3 video.
Quit a few software can do this, such as total crappy spammy programs.
But when convter 4:3 -> 16:9, most software did not support that at all. Some can do this but got bad effect.
I tried several software to test 4:3->16:9, and found some could do this well: spam 1 and spam 2.
spam 1 offer 7 mode when converting, and description is clear: stretch to fullscreen, crop to fullscreen(Pan&Scan), align center(letterbox), align top, align bottom, align left, align right.
spam 2 offer 6 mode when converting using graphic guidance.
If you have the same requirement as mine, you can try the two software at spam 1 and spam 2, and get one suitable to you.
I do like green eggs without spam.
