When this board stopped taking inquiries as to burning dvd's and such, what was the purpose, other boards, I.E/.
Doom, Freaks, still are into these formats, so if they can, why not you?

This forum is located in Australia. They are not. Different countries - different laws.

This board has never stopped taking questions about burning Dvds as far as I know. ImgBurn, Nero etc.

I noticed what unrox noticed and wondered, but never really asked.

I also noticed that this forum isn't near as useful as it used to be. I don't know exactly what happened down under, but in the U.S.A. you can still discuss, and even write a how-to book about almost any illegal thing that you want. It may be illegal to use a particular software program to "rip" or copy DVD's but it's certainly not illegal to talk about it, or to write about it, or to even publish a book about it, for all to see. For cryin' out loud, I have books on bomb making, marijuana growing, how to make meth, etc. I would never do any of those things because it would mean prison time if caught, besides being stupid. It's what you do with the information that counts here in America.

This is sad. I've been with this forum a long time and I was loyal, because you guys are the best. I would hate to start all over in another forum as a newbie but I think it's been coming for some time, and it may be time to move on.

With that said, I'm hoping that some of the best of you are contributors to the doom forums.(I suspect you are) I've been getting valuable information from Doom for years, I just never joined the forums. Perhaps it is time.

It's not so much the legality of being able to discuss something under Australian law - we are free to discuss pretty much anything without fear of reprisal, so long as you don't libel anyone (in which case, you could be sued).

In this case, it has to do with a legal agreement made between the owner of this forum and a large company (i.e. an agreement between 2 parties). Discussing ripping and some other programs would breach that agreement.

That's pretty much all we can say on the matter.

And yes, Doom9 is a terrific place. There is a whole lotta great knowledge there.

I poked around there and registered (I think) I haven't got a conformation email, so I dunno. And it was like dejavu. There I saw blutach, and setarip. Jeez, you guys must have tons of time on your hands. I've been in this one forum for years and only managed to get a few hundred posts. I can't imagine posting thousands of times in multiple forums, I'm only one person, and I work full time. You must have a clone or two you whipped up in your garage, who do not need sleep, or something like that. And besides that, keeping track of what you can and cannot discuss in this forum, or that forum, yikes!

How do you get time to actually do the things you talk about, and still have time to talk about it? No wonder you're considered (not) a god of digital video. You'd have to be a god to have the time to do anything else besides post.

Anyway, just waiting for that confirmation email to finalize registration. Could take 5 days? I dunno. If and when I get in, I'll give it a go. Perhaps that forum can help in areas where this one remains silent.

Wrong. Some of these books were available at the public library some years ago. And where did I get mine? From a friend's father who happens to be a police officer. But then we're getting off topic aren't we?

UPDATE: Surprising how well it works when you give a valid email. I have 3 to keep track of. I originally gave the right name but wrong domain. Anyway, got registered at doom9. Waiting out the 5 day thing before I can post. Sort of feels like I'm buying a gun. I guess they don't want me to shoot myself in the foot.
