How do I cut up an .avi file to fit on cds?

    Hi everyone....

this is my first post and first time in this whole area of videos...movies.....

    Problem:

I have downloaded the movie Spiderman. It's one huge 2.4 gig .avi file.

I want to know how I can cut it up into (maximum) 700mb chunks to burn to 700mb discs.

What program/s will I need to do this? I would really appreciate your help.

Also, are you able to convert .avi to vcd?

What program/s will I need to do this?

    Thanx heaps guyz

    To cut .AVI files:
    1. Open file in Virtual/nandub
    2. Set both Video and Audio tabs to Direct Stream Copy
    3. Using the slider, go to the beginning of the movie and set Mark In (To set your starting point)
    4. Similarly, slide to the point where you want the first chunk to be cut (You will need to manually determine where, so that the first chunk can nicely fit onto one CD), and set Mark Out
    5. Save as AVI and give a name to the first chunk of the movie
    6. Repeat the steps for the remaining chunks

To make a VCD, you can use either TMPGEnc or Nero. The latter is easiest to use, but consequently does not offer you much encoding options. The former does.

Seriously, it's one bloated video file. I have a feeling that the sound may be in uncompressed PCM .wav format. Can you open the file in Virtual/nandub and go to File -> File Information? Paste the informations you see here?

      Hi there Enchanter

      Thanx for your reply

Please excuse my lack of knowledge here.....What is the Virtual/nandub?

I'm assuming it is a program....where do I download it from?

I've just rechecked that file...it is exactly 2.13gigs, and it's..(Ooops) Monsteres Inc...lol, not spiderman.

Thanx again Enchanter for your advice....much appreciated..

Find the program from this list. Virtualdub is an encoding program. A very popular one. nandud is a modified version of Virtualdub that has enhanced features, which you wouldn't really need to be bothered about.

The file is still very big at 2GB+ though.
