Need help assembling a DVD

Hello, I feel like a maiden on her honeymoon night, be gentle with me.
I am a pro photographer and I am comfortable with computers and graphic programs.<O</O

I work as a projectionist for an old restored movie house and we are going to start showing old classic movies.<O</O
We will have a license to show the films which will be on DVD disks. I want to present the old movies the way they were shown 50 years ago, starting off with MovieTone News, then cartoons and then the feature.<O</O

My question is how can i remove the movie from the DVD disk, place it on my harddrive, then add the news trailer and cartoons (not sure which format they might be.) and then assemble them so there will be no pause between feature and shorts.<O</O

The size of the movie that I am trying to work with is 4.5 gigs in size, total size on the disk it a little short of 7 gigs. After I assemble all the shows, can i burn it to a 8 gig disk and will the DVD player recognize and show it.

Hi Lou and welcome. Due to prior legal issues, we can't talk about decrypting on this forum (please see rule 19), so we are not allowed to tell you how to get from DVD to hard drive - you'll need to search other forums for programs to do that.

However, once you have found them and have them decrypted, it is pretty easy to re-author them (that's the key word you are looking for) - many of the programs (most are free) enable you to do that. Burn onto good blank media - to do that, read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

Sorry to be so oblique, but we really can't say much more - especially given the decrypting part is not for personal use. Good luck.

Yes, it is. Once you get your stuff decrypted, come on back - we can certainly help with editing, but rule 19 stops us from even recommending certain programs (it's worth familiarising yourself with that rule).
