DVD Transfer To Harddrive?

I prefer not to Copy and Paste footage either from camcorders with DVD or from the DVD in the PC drive or from a camcorder with a hard drive because I tried that recently and I got bad picture quality and I asked about it here and I was told to use DVD Rebuilder. I've faced all kinds of annoying problems. When I meantioned not to Copy & Paste, it's best to use software to import because if you've filmed in wide screen, Copying & Pasting copies the wide screen footage without the black bars where people's heads will be oval-shaped. A lot of software (and I always find out the software that comes with the camcorder) allows us to copy the footage into the PC with the black bars in the letterboxed wide screen format the way we want it.
Without the black bars, we can still watch the movies OK by changing the screen setting in the TV and most full-framed TV's have a wide screen setting but if you want to share footage with anyone on-line they won't watch the wanted wide screen version in letterbox format if you Copy & Paste.Comment

I am sorry to differ dazuk. If a DVD is not copy protected, there is NO need for ANY software to copy that DVD into your PC. BTW, where does DVDRebuilder come into this ?

The software can help wide screen go into the PC with the black bars so that the footage can be viewed into a PC where the wide screen looks best. If there are no black bars the wide screen is wrong where a person's face will be oval-shaped. It doesn't matter for DVD playback because as you know, the TV setting can be changed to make the wide screen format look right.
DVD Rebuilder comes into it because when I recently imported footage to my PC, the picture quality was bad in parts of each frame of film. I was told this is interlacement and it is common. My post that shows a frame of my film that I sent is at: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=88315 and when you click on the photo in my post, you'll see the cat's whiskers look like computer graphics and the same around parts of her head. When I dubbed that into my DVD recorder things were perfect but not through the PC. I mentioned that to Bill53 encase he gets interlacement.Last edited by dazuk1972; 11 Aug 2008, 12:52 PM.Comment

There is a phrase in my language which, when translated, roughly means "using a cannon to kill a mosquito". Well, to me it is analogous to using DVD Rebuilder for getting rid of interlacement. Interlacement in DVD is quite natural and the DVD player takes care of it when played for TV viewing. For viewing in PC you just have to use a deinterlace filter along with MPC or VLC. PowerDVD even has its own deinterlacer.
And again I have to say, a widescreen DVD will be imported as widescreen DVD by a simple COPY/PASTE .Nothing(and i stress on the word 'nothing' ) changes.sigpic

Fare enough but why does my wide screen footage Copy & Paste without the black bars where the sides are pushed inwards to remove the black bars. I first did the Copy & Paste method and I got that wide screen problem. When I imported the footage through my software that came with the camcorder it imported my wide screen footage with the black bars and the screen was normal.
Many thanks.Comment
