Any quick fix to wrong frame size?

    Hi

How to fix without recompression heavily stretched avi from 576x240 to anything more standard 576 x xxx (what the xxx might be by standard values?)

I guess there might be just a number in the avi file header which must be changed to correct one?

I have installed Virtual Dub, but it doesn't seem to offer such option without rerendering whole video stream
    Any ideas?

Why do you want to change the resolution ? Is the picture distorted ? Why do you think 576 x 240 is non-standard ?

I have met a lot of avis with heavily distorted frame size.
      Apparently some converters mess avis.

Sorry for not being precise - when heavily stretched, I mean heavily distorted.

Definitely 576x240 isn't correct - when I stretch height aproximately to 350, picture looks close to normal.

If it's possible to fix without new compression, then is there any standard size close to 576 x 350?

        576 x 352. DivX/XviD prefers resolutions in multiples of 16.
But no, you cannot change resolution without reencoding.
Can you upload a very small sample(1-2 min) of this distorted avi so that I can examine it closely ?

Thanks for your reply. The Avi is too big for uploading.

Why does BSPlayer display it as 576x240 instead of 576x352?
Obiously it's still a pure number(s) which tells BSpalyer the frame size.
It doesn't make much of sense to reencode whole avi stream sequences, when there is just a wrong number determining vertical size, even when it's in each frame, it should be fixable without loss of quality during reencoding.

But which software offers such a fixing option?
I have seen often avis playing distorted by default with wrong frame size, so the problem must be very common.
I hope anyone is able to enlighten me, if I'm totally wrong.

          Tia

PS. I tested also with Windows Media Player that it's frame size is distoreted.

Just cut out 1 min out of it using Virtualdub. There just may be a way to fix it by changing Pixel Aspect Ratio. That is why I need to see a sample of the file.

It is not just a wrong number. It is the actual number of vertical pixels. If you will not upload a sample, then please provide more details about the file using Mediainfo(in tree-view).
But I really cannot help unless I can see the clip.

I added avi embedded into rar according to forum rules.

I guess this VLC palyer is just for playing distorted avis or does it provide any permanent fix options?

OK. But it would have been easier had you uploaded into a free file-hosting site like this.

What exactly do you are trying to distribute?
Do you have any comments to the file you share?

It's not a video but kind of a test of a hacking tool or whatever embedded into AVI, when played with BS Player.

I did some more checking - appears your avi started BS Player embedded unzip function. It may be normal under certain circumstances .

But what do you did to the video?
There is no change to the AVI itself, it still looks the same distorted and size has been increased.

Why don't you play it in some other player ,like Media Player Classic ? It is playing fine in my MPC. What about size? Increased from 136 to 142 kB. Are you concerned about that ?That may have happened due to an increase in vertical pixel size. I am uploading another converted file( different aspect ratio than the previous one). Also posting the screenshot of this new file when in Windows Media Player.

Have you tried to play your original file or the converted file on a TV through a standalone player ? I say this because of the difference between computer screen and TV screen regarding pixel shape.A file may look distorted on PC but play OK on TV due to the correct display aspect ratio flag being recognised by the standalone player.

And finally, before accusing me of spamming you should have investigated the issue further. Would have liked to hear a 'sorry' from you.
