TV brightness different than TV card?

okay so i was playing my ps3 hooked up to tv card.. using the lcd monitor. now i never noticed this until my friend played the same game as me on the small tv behind me. the brightness was different. no matter how high i set it or whatever i can't make it look the same. cause on his theres a certain part where you are in the online/multiplayer lobby and theres a checkered screen. one line is black, the next is white. example:

all i can think of is:

1. tv card
2. lcd monitor

sorry to resurrect this old thread but i seriously still want to find a fix for this. why the hell does my screen look so much darker than a tv screen.
