Hauppauge Software

was not sure where to post this so I apologise....


I have a widescreen LCD monitor and using the HVR 1100/1300 I believe of Hauppauge TV.

Since the software does not support widescreen (which is silly), what 3rd party software is there that can make the TV widescreen as I hate the thick black bars on the side of the screen!

would be nice if hauppauge can get the software to do this...and not be lazy, as they have lost quality over the few years....

Is there a zoom feature on the TV? You'll find this on 4:3 stuff. The settings might be able to help you as well (look for the settings that give you oprions on how to display 4:3 pictures).

I don't know about your specific model - but I have two Hauppauge cards... the PVR-150 PCI card and a USB one.

For the USB one, I use TSReader (third-party and *not* freeware) with an antenna to rip .ts files of local HD stations. I know it's not realtime, but then you can replay them in other software like Media Player Classic.

Additionally, software like VLC Media Player may be able to access it (though I haven't figured out how to change the channels...), and you can zoom in that. Also Ulead Video Studio and Pinnacle Video Studio etc. can access the Hauppauge cards - though I don't think those have zoom.

sure... but i have "issues" with it. i just dislike it as it takes over your system.

Are you sure vlc can play from the TV card?

It could from mine... but they're not the exact same as yours.
It's under Open Device. Try it out and see if it works.

You could try Dscaler 4 or 5. It seemed to work better than the Hauppauge Software that came with my old PCI TV tuner card.

My Hauppage hvr 950 does 16x9 with both the WinTV that it came with and Windows Media Center. Did your receiver come with WinTV? If so; did you click the menu button and place a check mark next to 16x9?

well yes but that still doesnt work at all. i still get the black bars on the side. its a limitation in the hauppauge software according to hauppauge.

Are you getting a 16x9 picture in a 4x3 box or are you getting a 4x3 picture in a 4x3 box?

good question. i configured my sky box to show 16:9... so 16:9 is being produced but the application displays it as 4:3

Do you have black bars at top and bottom as well as sides, or a distorted picture?
