Capturing Analogue Hi8 Tapes with Premiere...

    Hello everyone,

This is my first post here.

I actually came across here searching in google for some answer to my current project.

I just got a second hand Sony Handycam DCR-TRV350 for the primary purpose of digitalizing some tapes that I am carrying with me since the early 90s.

I want to capture them all with adobe premiere (I am using premiere pro CS3) and the firewire connection...

I was able to capture without major problems.

I am however disappointed with the quality I am getting...

I feel like the quality should be higher and I want to make sure I have all the correct settings to make the most out of what I have.

I recorded the original tapes with a Hi8 Sony Handycam that I bought new in 1994 and the tapes are average quality recorded on SP and one pass only (I've never recorded over them)

    So my question is:

what are the right/better settings in the process of capturing through 1394 to premiere?

My PC is a Core2 duo at 2.0GHz with 4Gb Ram XP Sp3 and plenty of HDD available...

Any help or pointers will be highly appreciated....

    Thanks!

The quality will be the same as the original. HI8 is analog, and will come out no better than what it was.
    You raise the blade,
    You make the change,
You rearange me till I'm sane.
You lock the door, throw away
    the key,
    There's someone in my head
    and it's not me.
