    Over the Air (OTA) Antenna

I am about to purchase an over the air antenna to try and pick up my local stations in HD (tired of paying Dish Network $5/month for them in just standard definition).

I wanted to get some suggestions before I actually purchase one from people who know more about them than I do. I have a couple in mind but, have read several comments that say "sometimes rabbit ears can work better than an expensive OTA you buy". I understand that there is no such thing as a "HD" antenna. There all an OTA antenna specifically for UHF or VHF or both.

I also understand that position of the antenna is everything, as well as line of sight and/or obstructions in between you and the tower.

As you can see below I have various towers around me ranging from 2 miles to 49. I really only care about ABC, NBC, and CBS. I can hook up the coax cable from the OTA antenna directly to my Dish receiver and the channels will show up in my on screen program guide and can also record them to my DVR/PVR if I wanted to.

I live in a rural area with lots of tall pine trees that are about 20 - 30 feet high.

Which antenna would be the best for my needs? Directional? Omni-Directional (aka Multi-Directional)? Should I get an amplifier? How tall of a mast should I mount it on?

If there is any more needed information, please let me know (I'm sure I forgot something).

Here are a few I've contemplated on purchasing:

Antennas Direct DB4 Multi Directional HDTV Antenna

Antennas Direct DB8 Multidirectional HDTV Antenna

ClearStream High Gain Digital VHF Antenna

Channel Master 4228HD Long-Range Outdoor Rooftop HDTV Antenna

Winegard SS-3000 Amplified Indoor UHF/VHF Antenna
