Please help with MP3 formats in VirtualDub

I'm ripping a DVD - Behind Enemy Lines. I created a silent AVI file and a WAV file(48kHz) using flask-MPEG 0.6 Preview. Now I want to combine the AVI and WAV using VirtualDub1.4.10.

I loaded the AVI file and put it into the Direct Stream Copy and then loaded the WAV file and put in under Full Processing Mode. Then I click menu Audio->Conversion and made sure that Sample rate is No Change(48000Hz), High Quality is checked, Precision is No Change (16-bit) and Channels is No Change(stereo). Then I went to menu Audio->Compression... and selected [B]MPEG layer-3[B] and checked Show all format, the highest format I could get is 56Kbit/s 24,000Hz stereo.

I tried with VirtualDub 1.3c and got the same result. I used to be able to get 128Kbit/s 48,000Hz stereo. What shall I do?

There is another similar issue: When I tried to process audio using Flask MPEG 0.6 Preview, I did not have MPEG Layer-3 option. What's wrong?

I'm desperate for your advice of expertise and appreciate it very much!

Here's an alternative for you. Send the .wav file into any MP3-capble encoders, such as LAME or even MusicMatch. Once you have got your MP3 file, mux the MP3 with the video in the same manner as you described, except that the audio tab will now be set to Direct Stream Copy. I recommend that you use nandub for muxing, as it does not complain about MP3 files and it is basically a modified version of nandub (If you know how to use Virtualdub, this is not going to look any different).

      audio mmmmm

try process through nandub will demux and encode it for you all in one and then you can remux it back with the video
did you load all the codecs? if you are unable to see the codec in any application i would download radium codec.
