Panasonic Dvd Recorder

I am debating whether or not to puechase the Panasonic DMRE20EBS DVD RECORDER. Priced at Â£999 its a lot of money. Has anyone already taken the plunge?
I have a lot of archived material on VHS which i would want to transfer to DVD. Does anyone know how the 'chapter' system works? I understand that when recording onto DVD one can make up the chapters yourself. If this is so does anyone know how many chapters can be put on one disc?
I hope someone understands what I am trying to ask here. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

In light of the fact that there is still a "format war" going on regarding DVD burners (similar to the old VHS/Batamax videotape recorder "wars") and the presently high prices, I'd hold off on such a purchase for the time being. It would seem that the "war" will be over in less than 6 months.
