I was just wondering if there is a codec that basically every computer will have installed. Reason: I made a little video of my kids and I want to send it to their Grandad. I already compressed it with divx. I sent him the codec to install. He just can't figure it out. Question: is there a codec that he will most likely have installed? Like microsoft something. So he won't have to install anything just click on the clip and it plays? I'll just encode it with that codec.

Get yourself over to Doom 9 they have some great launchers which you can burn to the disk with your avi. Then you stick the disk in, the launcher opens up it's own window and plays! Simple

Convert the .AVI file to MPEG1 format using TMPGEnc, which is automatically recognized by the Windows Media Player. Grandpa can simply doubleclick on the file and it will bring up Windows Media Player, automatically load and start. Or he can Windows Media Player and select the file from the Player's menu.

Indeo (5.04?) should be on every pc with win98 or newer. mp3-sound should work too.
