how to backup DivX and MPG file

Please help. I have created some DivX and MPG (XVCD) files. I want to make data format back ups in CDs. However I have problem in burning DivX or MPG file. I use Wizard in Nero to compile a new Data CD (ISO2). I always get these messages after 100% burned.

    Caching of files started
    Caching of files completed
    Burn process started at 12x (1800 KB/s)
    CRW2100E
    This is not a CD-Recordable
    CRW2100E
    Could not perform Fixation
    Burn process failed at 12x (1800 kB/s)

Please help. What should I do? If I do not use Wizard, I do not know which one I should use, UDF/ISO, UDF, Hybrid or ISO.

In the burning screen, system showed that my file is 694M and 78:56:58 long. Before burning, the bottom bar showed yellow color from 675m to 694m (my CD is 700M). Is this normal? What is the meaning of yellow color?

Please help to let me make a copy in CD. Right now I do not have any back up of all my movies.

    Thanks.

When I burn a DivX Cd, should I burn as a data CD or VCD (non-standard) CD? (I also got error in burning DivX as a data CD) Thanks.

If you are using XP, try downloading the windows update component that resolves issues on CD-burning.

I had exactly the same problem before and I discovered that it was a faulty BIOS (Some people who visited the off-topic section and read one of the threads created by Admin will have an idea of what I'm talking about). Flashing to a working version (and reinstalling Windows) solved it all. I can't offer you a solution to the problem, but this suggestion may just work for you. Otherwise, try reinstalling any IDE driver you have and burning at a lower speed.

Thanks a lot, Enchanter for your advice. I have tried to burn at 2x. However it did not work. A friend told me to see the back of a CD so I know how much it has been burned. I have a mpg file. Size is showed around 725,000,000 in IE. When I burn it as a regular XVCD (non-standard), size is showed as 694m in Nero and it was burned ok. The bottom bar was showed as 69 mins without yellow bar. On the back of this CD, I still can see around 1.5mm space to the edge.

When I burn the same file as a data CD, Nero showed that it is a 708m file and I could see the yellow bar as I mentioned before. On the back of this guy, there is not empty space any more when I got the error message.

Enchanter, it is hard for me to reinstall XP or a IDE driver. Do you have any suggestion or idea? Or any other threads I could get more information?

        Thanks.

Installing an IDE driver is not different from installing drivers for your graphics card or any other peripherals. Either it comes with an installer, or you point the driver update program to the folder that contains the updated drivers. Check in the Device Manager, and open up your IDE Controller property box. There you should be able to update the driver via the driver tab.

As for flashing the BIOS (which was the only working solution for me), it will most likely require you to reinstall Windows and hence it is a lot of work. Were some settings changed prior to this problem? It seems to me that Nero is having difficulty closing the disc. A few suggestions would be to try another media (maybe this one you're using does not have sufficient space for this movie) and a different burning program.
