Cannot open avi in pinnacle 8

I am using a Sony DV camcorder to convert my older analog video to digital. I capture the video using sony's software, but want to edit the video using pinnacle. When I try to open the avi file, pinnacle 8 says it is unable to open the file.

The avi plays fine in windows media player. I ran the gspot program, and it identified the avi as an Multipart OpenDML AVI file.
